Abstract

Rare-earth-activated CaSiO3 was synthesized through co-precipitation technique. Variation of Ca:Si ratio (x) resulted in formation of γ- Ca2SiO4 and β- Ca2SiO4 phases with significant effect on the Ce3+ luminescence. The average fluorescence lifetime of the Ce3+ ions for x = 1, 1.43 and 2 were found to be 33.5, 34.3 and 36.5 ns respectively. The quantum efficiency of the stoichiometric phosphor was 64%. The phosphor exhibits appreciable OSL sensitivity (62% of that of the Al2O3: C) for x = 2.
