Abstract
Photodynamic therapy is a modern and non-invasive therapy used for the treatment of non-cancerous diseases as well as cancers of various types. Because of good therapeutic results and the possibility of parallel application of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with other therapeutic protocols, this treatment is widely used in many fields of medicine and biomedical applications. This paper is devoted to the preparation of new luminescent phosphate glasses, suitable for the application in photodynamic therapy. Phosphor glasses with different composition were prepared in this study. Transmittance spectra, excitation spectra and luminescence of the prepared samples were measured. Furthermore, the photosensitivity of rhodamine b to light generated by the prepared N4 glass was described. By measuring all samples, it was found that the most optimal from all prepared glasses is sample N4. This sample, containing oxides in molar percentages, is well-suited for use in photodynamic therapy applications: Na2O – 12.75 %; CaO – 2.31 %; ZnO – 34.20 %; SiO2 – 40.08 %; P2O5 – 9.11 %; Sm2O3 – 1.55 %.
