Abstract

A spectroscopic investigation of the host matrix KGd 2F 7 is performed using Eu 3+ as local probe. Its crystal structure derives from the fluorite-type by an ordering of the cations and anions. On powdered samples with different europium concentrations, the luminescence spectra of Eu 3+:KGd 2F 7 allowed an identification of a multisite behaviour for the Eu 3+ ions, leading to a lifetime distribution for the 5D 0 emitting level.
