Abstract
The nanocrystalline SrAl2O4: Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphor powders have been synthesized by combustion process. The as-obtained phosphor is characterized by means of X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX) studies. The photoluminescence (PL), thermoluminescence (TL) and the afterglow properties of the SrAl2O4: Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphor are also investigated. After irradiated with ultraviolet (UV) light, the phosphors emitted green long lasting phosphorescence with an excitation peak at 340 nm and emission peak at 514 nm ascribed to the characteristic 5d-4f transition of Eu2+.
