Abstract

Sm3+ ions activated BaBiNaTeO6 phosphors were produced by the conventional high temperature solid-state reaction. The structures and phase purity, morphology, and luminescence properties of prepared BaBiNaTeO6: xSm3+ (x = 0.05–0.50 mol) were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), photoluminescence (PL). The BaBiNaTeO6:Sm3+ phosphor shows that orange-red emission (646 nm) under 404 nm excitation, while the associated absorption peaks are in the ultraviolet (UV) and near-ultraviolet (NUV) area. The quenching concentration of BaBiNaTeO6:Sm3+ phosphor is approximately 15 mol% as optimum doping concentration. The Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of BaBiNaTeO6:0.15Sm3+ are calculated to be (0.604, 0.393). Therefore, Sm3+-doped BaBiNaTeO6 phosphors can be applied in white light-emitting diodes (w-LEDs).
