Abstract

Photoluminescence of crystals of RbCl, RbBr, RbI doped with OH − ions was systematically investigated as a function of dopant concentration and temperature. The emission spectra show the occurrence in all three systems of three emission bands due to hydroxyl impurities, whose features are in good agreement with previous findings in potassium halides and partial data on RbCl and RbBr. The luminescence of OH − ions in RbI was identified and characterized for the first time. Emission bands caused by other kinds of oxygen-related centers, such as O 2 − molecular ions and perhaps O 2- ions, were revealed.
