Abstract

The formation of a complete solid solution in the In itxSc 1 − x BO 3 (0 ⩽ x ⩽ 1) system with a linear variation in unit cell parameters is reported. Crystal growth of the In 0.359Sc 0.639Ce 0.002BO 3 composition was performed by slow cooling of a high temperature solution using LiBO 2 as a solvent in an Ar atmosphere. The luminescence of Ce 3+ in the In x SC 1 − x BO 3 solid solutions and in the as-grown single crystals was investigated. The influence of In content on the luminescent intensity of Ce 3+ is discussed in relation to heat treatment conditions.
