Abstract

The ArICl(ion-pair states) (IP) van der Waals (vdW) complexes populated in the ArICl(IP vIP,nIP ← A1,vA,nA = 0 ← X,0,nX = 0) excitation pathway have been observed and studied for the first time. Analysis of the luminescence excitation spectra, luminescence spectra themselves and temporal behavior of the luminescence intensities of the transitions observed have been carried out. The ArICl(E0+, β1 and/or D'2) luminescence has been discovered. It has been shown that ArICl(E,0 → X0+) luminescence spectrum is very similar to that of ICl(E,0 → X0+) one in some cases but is shifted relative to the latter. The ArICl(X0+, A1, β1) binding energies have been estimated, and ArICl(E0+,vIP = 0,nE) lifetime has been found to be 18.8(2) ns.
