Abstract

Excitation spectra of the stationary recombination luminescence of several ionic crystals were measured at room temperature by using synchrotron radiation in the ultrasoft X-ray region of 70–370 eV. Full correlation of these spectra with the corresponding core-edge absorption spectra reveals the near-surface origin of the luminescence. Possible applications of this luminescence are proposed.
