Abstract

Metal Organic Framework (MOF) exhibits interesting structural properties especially considering their ion exchange capacity. Eu@COK-16 have been shown to present a small emission quantum efficiency due to the high amount of water molecules in their structure. This report presents a series of Eu@COK-16 with luminescence enhancement due to the replacement of the suppressor molecules by impregnation with organic ligands such as acetylacetonate (ACAC), butyl sulfoxide (Butyl) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Spectroscopic investigation, i.e. excitation/emission spectra and lifetimes of the excited states, shows an increase in the quantum efficiency owing to the successful elimination of water molecules from the first coordination sphere of the Eu3+ ions.
