Abstract

Fast scintillation material based on the ternary halide crystal of Cs2BaCl4 was synthesized. Under X-ray excitation, bands ascribed to STEs and AFL were observed. Cs2BaCl4 had a low scintillation decay time constant of 1.2 ns, whose proportion was approximately 70% of the total scintillation amount. The light yield of Cs2BaCl4 was estimated through measuring the gamma-ray-excited pulse height spectra. Cs2BaCl4 had a total light yield of 2400 photons/MeV. Considering the proportion of the fast component was 70% of the total scintillation amount, the fast component light yield was approximately 1700 photons/MeV, which is larger than that of BaF2.
