Abstract
We report a case of lumbar paraspinal heterotopic ossification (HO) in a 28-year-old male Army soldier. The patient reported an accidental fall from 30 feet while rappelling from a helicopter, sustaining a lumbar hematoma, which was observed. Over the 3 years subsequent to his injury, he experienced progressively worsening pain in his low back but denied radicular symptoms. On examination, the patient had a firm mass that was tender to palpation within the right lumbar paraspinal muscles; otherwise, neurologic examination of bilateral lower extremities was normal.
