Abstract

atients with sciatica or cervical radiculopathy tend to improve ver time. However, surgery is frequently considered for patients ith severe symptoms, persistent symptoms, or progressive eurologic deficits. For both a symptomatic herniated cervical isc and a symptomatic herniated lumbar disc, neurosurgeons gree that surgery should be offered only after a course of onoperative treatment has failed, unless the patient has a rogressive neurologic deficit.
