Abstract
Among the various problems concerning the sayings of Jesus, his first words from the cross, according to Luke's passion narrative, continue to puzzle editors and commentators of the third Gospel. In the first place, the indecision concerning the originality of the logion in Luke's Gospel text: though probably not a part of the original Gospel of is somewhat striking. As is the case with the more numerous examples of words or passages within single square brackets, the decision is left to the reader. The relationship between Luke 23:34a and Acts 7:60 in their respective contexts is of particular importance. The most logical line of influence seems to be that Luke's story of Jesus' passion has influenced his way of recounting Stephen's martyrdom. Several details make it evident that the narrative of Jesus' passion had become the model for the story of Stephen's martyrdom in Acts. Keywords: Gospel text; Jesus; Luke 23:34a; Stephen's martyrdom
