Abstract

AbstractUK | Lucy McCombes is a responsible tourism and community development professional with an academic background in Social Anthropology of Development (MA) and Responsible Tourism Management (MSc). Offering an applied and social perspective on responsible tourism development, her work has involved social impact assessment, community participation and consultation, participatory and multi-stakeholder planning, monitoring and evaluation, socio-cultural analysis, and qualitative research. Lucy’s main research interests are around the responsible management of the social impacts of tourism and tourist-host interaction within community-based tourism. Since 2009, Lucy has been working for Leeds Beckett University as a Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer teaching on the MSc Responsible Tourism Management (in Leeds, The Gambia, Mauritius and Kenya), as well as working on a range of tourism-related external consultancy and research projects. Outside of work, she is co-founder of Ninki Nanka Encounters Foundation—a Gambian charity supporting community-based tourism along the River Gambia.
