Abstract

Lubricating oils have been analysed after use in medium speed diesel engines, for a different number of hours. The engines use gas oil for starting and before shut down; fuel oil for normal running. Changes in physiochemical properties were noticed especially TBN, viscosity, flash point and metallic contaminants like iron, aluminium, chrome and silicon. Accordingly measures were taken to avoid failures and to organize a predictive maintenance schedule.
