Abstract

The process of wire drawing under hydrodynamic friction is simulated by a liquid flow whose viscosity is a linear function of pressure. Accurate analytical solutions for the velocity and pressure distribution over the clearance between the moving wire and the pressure pipe lengthwise and through depth are obtained. The pressure distribution is shown to be asymmetrical through depth and nonlinear along the channel length, the velocity profile being other than parabolic.
