Abstract

A chemical dosimeter has been developed which is based on the gas evolution of lubricants by γ-radiation. The dosimeter can be used to measure γ-doses with good linearity in the range of 1–10 Mrad. Four commercial lubricant oils, motor oil, brake fluid, transmission, fluid and vacuum pump oil were tested with 60Co γ-radiation at an average dose rate of 72 krad h −1 inside the sample container. The dosimeter was calibrated with a thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD, CaF 2: Mn).
