Abstract

This project investigates the feasibility of creating real-time 3D images, using data obtained from satellites. The main components that will be discussed are stereoscopic vision, 3D display devices, and satellite imaging. 3D display devices based on the principles of human stereoscopic vision do exist. A model for converting satellite images to suitable input for such a 3D display is proposed. It is possible to obtain stereoscopic image pairs from some satellites. In cases where this is not possible, the model proposes using an original image and a satellite height map (obtained from different sources) to create a stereoscopic image pair.
