The laser output energy in the Nd-doped laser crystalsafter 'y-irradiation is decreased due to passive losses on the laser generation wavelength 1.06 m (reabsorption of the laserradiation by colour centers). The colour centers in YAG-Er crystals may fulfill the sensibilizator function providing anincrease ofthe pumping efficiency and output energy ofthe laser generation at 2.94 pm.Keywords: Laser Crystals, Radiation Effects, Gd5Ga5O12:Nd, YAG:Er, YAG:Nd, YA1O3:Nd, LiNbO3, rare-earth1. INTRODUCTIONIt is well-established that colour centers (CC) produced by ionizing radiation or short-wave radiation of pump iampstrongly influence optical characteristics of yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG) single ctystals'3. The CC originated in thecrystals and absorbing not only pump light but laser light as well, significantly increase energy losses in lasers4. However, the possibility of improvement of generation characteristics of YAG:Nd lasers was reported as an effect of small dose ofgamma and electron irradiation .
