Abstract

ABSTRACT Transparent and porous anatase nanocrystals-dispersed silica films have been successfully prepared by treating thepoly(ethylene glycol), PEG, -containing Si02-Ti02 gel films with hot water. This process was done at temperatures lowerthan 100°C under atmospheric pressure, and thus anatase nanocrystals-dispersed films can be formed on various kinds ofsubstrates including organic polymers with poor heat resistance. The hydrolysis of Si-O-Ti bonds and dissolution of Si02 component in the Si02-Ti02 gel films with hot water treatment were related to the formation process of anatase nanocrystals in the Si02-Ti02 gel films with the treatment. In addition, porous film structure formed by leaching of PEGwith hot water treatment led to homogenous dispersion of anatase nonocrystals in the films. Keywords : silica-titania, titania, anatase, hot water treatment, photocatalyst, poly(ethylene glycol) 1.
