Abstract

ABSTRACTOptical bistability in a Fabry—Perot cavity filled with nonlinear riedium pos— sessing reversible bleaching under illumination by two light beams having dif— ferent wavelengthes is considered theoretically. The erIiancement of optical feed— back efficiency is shown to take place when simultaneous intensity changes of light waves have opposite signes. Analytical solution is obtained in a low absorp—tion limit showing that the optical bistability can be realized with four timesgreater level of background losses as compared with the conventional case. 1 . INT RODUCT ION Nonlinear Fabry—Perot cavity ( FPC ) is now very popular subject f scientificinvestigations of spatial and temporal transformations of light beams . Absorptive optical bistability in such systems was found to be hrly realized experimentallybecause small level of background losses was requiredA number of promising nonlinear media such as dyes and color center crystalls were found to be useless for realization of passive optically bistable devices.
