Abstract

We propose new methods of frequency conversion in compound III-V semiconductor nonlinear waveguides and high mid- infrared absorbing nonlinear waveguides. In the first scheme we use higher order waveguide mode as an intermediary to achieve phasematching in nonlinear waveguides. In the second scheme we generate mid-infrared radiation in high absorption nonlinear waveguides by coupling the absorbing nonlinear waveguide to a linear waveguide with low absorption. We show that high conversion efficiencies can be achieved in both schemes.© (2000) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
