Abstract

A new interferometric method for measuring refractive index distribution in GRIN blanks with shapes deviating from plane-parallel ones is described. It uses a standard double-pass interferometric scheme modified to provide single passing of the beam through the investigated GRIN sample. Four interferograms recorded with one preliminary adjustment of the sample allow to restore the distribution of refractive index in the sample, eliminating errors introduced by imperfectness of the interferometer and of sample surfaces, and wedge shape of the sample. The method does not need information about the thickness and the wedge angle of a blank. Two-dimensional dependence of refractive index in transverse dimensions along the sample surface can be measured with the accuracy better than 1(DOT)10-4.© (1995) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
