Measurement of functional parameters for sensors of velocityand direction of moving imageAlexander I. Khatountsev, Nathan S. Mostovljansky, Victor N. Kroutilm, Natalia I. FrostPulsar' Science Recearch Institute,Moscow 1O587, RussiaABSTRACTThe development of velocity and direction CCD sensors for a moving image is reported on. Their performance isdiscussed. Examples of output signals in typical experimental conditions are given. Keywords: moving image sensors, parameters measurement, CCD2. INTRODUCTIONThe sensors rely on array CCDs. Therefore, their performance parameters are similar to these of CCDs1'2 (the numberof photosensitive elements, spectral sensitivity, band, photosensitive element size maximum irradiance, integration time, transformation factor, noise level, threshold irradiance, maximum output signal, output signal frequency). Standardtechniques are used to control these parameters. At the same time, to enable the measurement of a velocity and direction of a moving image, the photosensitivesurface structure is modified so that, firstly, they practically cannot be used as an imager, and, secondly, a number of newparameters describing these devices in terms ofnew functional applications are required.3. DIRECTION SENSORParticulary, a direction sensor, as distinct from a common array, has photosensitive columns located not parallelliy but
