Abstract
Perfluorinated alkyl chains were introduced into proton donating molecules which are able to form hydrogen bonded associates with suitable proton acceptors. Mesophase induction and stabilization were observed. Liquid crystalline associates were proven by microscopic investigation and phase diagrams. Smectic phases are stabilized in rod-like and laterally branched mesogens. The clearing temperatures are much higher than for the analogous nonfluorinated associated.© (1998) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
