Abstract

ABSTRACT A theory of high-order harmonic generation by bichromatic field is proposed. The theory is valid for exciting fieldswith comparable intensities. Calculations carried out in the frames of the theory show that adding a high-frequency exiting field significantly enhances harmonics conversion efficiency. The possibility of phase matching of harmonics under bichromatic excitation is being discussed. Keywords: : High-Order Harmonic Generation, Bichromatic Excitation, Phase Matching 1. INTRODUCTION Recently the method of high-order harmonic generation (HOHG) in bichromatic field was being extensivelystudied. This method is nearly the same as HOHG with monochromatic field, because in both methods harmonic generationis achieved by media excitation with strong pump laser field. However since in bichromatic case two beams with differentfrequencies are used, the set ofharmonics with linear combination ofmultiple frequencies ofthe pump fields is observed.Bichromatic method has some merits because it gives an opportunity to enhance the conversion efficiency'4, toachieve tunability of harmonics6. to obtain harmonics with new frequencies, not obtainable by harmonic generation inmonochromatic field, to control the generation process with the second beam7, and to realize phase matching conditions8.We present quantum-mechanical theory of HOHG by single atom in bichromatic field. We suppose that one of the
