Abstract

ABSTRACTBismuth silicon oxide and Bismuthgermanium oxide single crystals havebeen grown by Czochraiski technique.Procedures and results of synthesis are reported.I. INTRODUCTIONSingle crystals of Bismuth siliconoxide (BSO-Bi125i020) and Bismuthgermanium oxide (BGO-Bi12GeO70) havenumber of applications. They are veryclosely related materials (both arecubic, belonging to the space group 123 [1], the only difference being the substitution of Ge or Si), possessingphotoconducting, photo]uminescent [21, piezoelectric [3] and electro-optical [4] properties. Their applicationsextend from transient holography (as image recording materials) to image processing, phase conjugation and spacetime light modulators [5]. Both crysta]sexhibit isotropic optical activity [6,7]. The optical rotatory power andits dispersion are remarkably large for Growth of Bismuth Silicon Oxide and BismuthGermanium Oxide Crystals by Czochralski Technique R. Gopalakrlshnan, D.
