Abstract

ABSTRACT Application of intracavity absorption cell gives the opportunity to increase essentially the outputpower sensitivity to modulation of losses at the frequency of relaxation oscillations up to theoretically infinite value.Keywords: relaxation oscillation, absorption cell, CO2 laser. Intracavity methods of measuring small fluctuations in an absorption coefficient and refractive indexhave a high sensitivity. Excitation of relaxation oscillations inherent to some types of lasers gives anadditional essential increase in the sensitivity of these methods. Among possible applications of the mechanism it is necessary to outline frequency stabilization with significantly less probe deviation. Andreev et al.1 used Fabri— Perot interferometer as an intracavity reference for frequency stabilization of a solidstate laser. The reliability of such a reference is far from satisfactory. Amplification line in gas lasers isnatural and reliable reference. Unfortunately, relaxation oscillations in gas lasers are significantly weakerrelative to solid state lasers.
