Abstract

ABSTRACT We have studied the harmonic generation and the effective nonlinear-optical coefficients of the quasi-periodic opticalsuperlattice(QPOS). It has been shown that the effective nonlinear-optical coefficients in QPOS are the extension of that inperiodic optical superlattice(POS). The intensities of the harmonic generation obtained by the coupled-wave equations are ingood agreement with prediction by the effective nonlinear-optical coefficients. Keywords: effective nonlinear coefficients , harmonic generation , quasi-phase-match. 1. INTRODUCTION Quasi-phase-matched(QPM) second harmonic generation(SHG) in the periodic optical superlattice have been a hot topicfor the past a few years because of its potential application in frequency conversion. [1--4}. Recently it was proposed that thequasi-phase-matching theory proposed by Bloembergen et al.[5] can be extended from periodic structures to quasiperiodicstructures[6-7]. A new scheme that uses Fibonacci-type quasi-periodic superlattice structures for QPM was demonstratedexperimentally with LiTaO3 crystal plates[8] .
