Abstract

The theory of polarization effects in an optical passive ring resonator gyro (OPRG) will be discussed using Jones matrices. The consequences of a mismatch in the states of polarization incident to the optical fiber ring resonator (OFRR) and a misalignment in the principal axes of its directional coupler shall be considered. Particular attention will be paid to ways of improving the gyro's reciprocity by means of an in-loop polarizer.© (1992) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
