Abstract

Longitudinal and shear waves are produced in structure by using piezoceramic transducers. These elastic waves have been used to obtain effective elastic properties of the medium or are used to detect localized damage. Elastic wave generation in a beam by surface-mounted piezoceramic patches is described in this paper. Preliminary experimental and analytical results are presented and discussed qualitatively. Longitudinal and flexural waves are generated by surface mounted piezoceramic patches. Numerical procedures are developed and preliminary simulation results are presented and qualitatively compared with experimental observation.© (1994) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
