Abstract

Measurements of neighboring cells received power are one of the critical tasks of the user equipment in cellular networks. These measurements are used by the network to make decisions on user handover between cells and, therefore, have a significant impact on the network overall capacity. Recently, new requirements were added to the Long Term Evolution (LTE) specifications in order to improve the measurements accuracy in dense cellular environments by taking into account interference from neighboring base stations. In this letter, we propose a novel, low complexity and robust measurement algorithm for LTE that is capable of canceling interference from neighboring base stations and demonstrate its excellent performance through extensive simulations.
