Abstract

Maternity stay, as well as postpartum after discharge from the hospital, are seen as the ideal time to provide information and training for the postpartum woman, thus making her the main agent in her well-being. Hospitalization in the maternity ward should be long enough so that maternal concerns could be identified and thus ensure that mothers are able to care for themselves and their child at home. It is in this period of physical and psychological recovery that women experience many transformations, and the need to support the mothers in their new reality emerges. A descriptive and exploratory study of quantitative nature was carried out in which the objective was: to understand the main concerns felt by the mothers at the time of hospital discharge. A questionnaire was used to identify maternal concerns and thus adjust the information/training to the needs/interests of the woman. Concerns have been identified about the women, their baby, their partner, their family, and also their community. The postpartum period of hospitalization proves to be insufficient/unsatisfying regarding the acquisition of basic maternal skills. It aims to lay the foundations for the future creation of postpartum courses, in order to answer the questions, overcome concerns and help the mothers live the adaptation to motherhood in a conscious and healthy way.
