Abstract
תקציר בעברית: הדוח עוסק בנושא בין-תחומי המקשר בין ידע ביולוגי לבין חינוך סביבתי ומגשר בין טקסונומיה זואולוגית לבין הלשון העברית. מוסבר ונידון הצורך בשמות עממיים בעברית למיני החרקים מסדרת השפיראים (Odonata), ומנותח הניסיון המעשי ביצירת שמות שימושיים לשפיריות ולשפריריות הידועות בארץ ישראל. השפיראים הם הקבוצה הראשונה של פרוקי הרגליים בארץ ששמות מיניה נוצרו באופן מקיף לסדרה כולה בגישה שיטתית ועקיבה והוגשו לאקדמיה ללשון העברית. לאחר תהליך ממושך של דיונים מפורטים בוועדה למונחי הזואולוגיה אושרו השמות על ידי מליאת האקדמיה. שמות השפיריות והשפריריות אמורים לשמש כלי עזר חשוב בחינוך לשימור המגוון הביולוגי ובקידום ההגנה על בתי גידול לחים. מוצגת רשימת מצאי מעודכנת של מיני השפיראים בישראל, עם התייחסות נפרדת לדרום הארץ. הרשימה מבוססת על ספרות מדעית ונערכה למטרות יישומיות של שמירת הטבע.English Abstract: The issue of the report is interdisciplinary: linking biological knowledge and environmental education, connecting zoological taxonomy with the Hebrew language. The necessity of Hebrew names for Israeli dragonflies and damselflies is explained and discussed, and the practice of creating those names is analyzed. The vernacular names were proposed for the taxonomical insect order (Odonata) comprehensively. A methodical consistent approach, as the base for suggesting the names, is briefly described. The complete and clarified names proposal (the first for an arthropods group of the country) was submitted to the Academy of the Hebrew Language. After lengthy process of detailed discussions in the Zoological Terminology Committee, the Hebrew common names of dragonflies and damselflies have been approved by the Plenary Session of the Academy. The accepted names should be an important tool in education for biodiversity conservation and in promotion for fresh-water habitats protection. Additionally, an up-dated Odonata faunistic list of Israel is given. The list is a concise literature summary for practical conservation purposes.
