Abstract
This article proposes some elements for the analysis of one of the main characters of Luis Fernando Verissimo: The Analyst of Bage. It focuses, fundamentally, on the questions implicated in the humor of the text, which makes reference to the dilemma of gaucho’s identity constitution. Using theoretical references from Literary Theory and specially Social Anthropology, I aim to develop some interpretative hypotheses, as well as to map the questions that surround this peculiar character of Brazilian literature.

RESUMO: Este artigo tem por objetivo trazer elementos para análise de um dos principais personagens de Luis Fernando Veríssimo: o Analista de Bagé. Fundamentalmente, as questões implicadas no humor presente no texto, as quais remetem propriamente ao dilema da constituição da identidade gaúcha. Utilizando referenciais teóricos da Teoria Literária e especialmente da Antropologia Social, busco desenvolver algumas hipóteses interpretativas, bem como mapear as questões que cercam esse peculiar personagem da literatura brasileira.
