Abstract

Researchers at Louisiana State University created a map of New Orleans using numerical data generated by the Transportation Analysis and Simulation System, or TRANSIMS, to simulate traffic evacuations on the city's road network following Hurricane Katrina. Larger concentrations of red indicate greater amounts of vehicular traffic. The traffic on New Orleans roads at approximately 5:30 PM on Sunday, August 28, 2005, is viewed from the southeast to the northwest.
