Abstract

The measurement of L-subshell x-ray production cross sections (XRPCS) by the impact of 4He+, 7Li2+, 9Be2+, 10B2+, 12C3+, 14N2+, 16O3+, and 19F3+ ions (2 ≤ Z1 ≤ 9) has been reported previously, using projectiles of the same velocities at energies between 0.50 MeV/u and 0.75 MeV/u. The lanthanoid elements Ce, Nd, Eu, Gd, Sm, and Dy were used as targets. A possible universal scaling for the x-ray production cross sections of the Lα (L3M4 + L3M5) line and total cross sections σLT is based on a reduced velocity parameter ξLR. In the same fashion, a scaling for the Lγ line (L2N4 + L1N2 + L1N3 + L1O3 + L1O2 + L2N1 + L2O4) is also achieved, based on a reduced velocity parameter ξL1,2R that includes only the L1 and L2 subshells. An additional scaling that covers the influence of the projectile atomic number is also applied, although a universal curve is not found.
