Abstract

Systematic low-frequency current oscillations were observed in a particular temperature range in the ferrocene sample with adsorbed ethanol vapor in a sandwich type of cell configuration. The frequency of current oscillations was found to decrease with the increasing bias voltage. Experiments with 2-propanol vapor have also been performed. Existing theories of current oscillations in semiconductors have failed to explain the observed low-frequency current oscillations in this organometallic semiconductor. Such current oscillations are possibly associated with some kind of time dependent phase changes in the ferrocene−ethanol (2-propanol) system/surface layer.
