Abstract
The low-frequency response of TbVO4 near its cooperative Jahn-Teller transition, TD=32.6K, has been measured by light scattering. Analysis above TD, based upon existing theory, provides the first quantitative description of the observed spectral behaviour of any singular dynamic central peak on the basis of a microscopic theory. The spectra below TD call for renewed theoretical effort.
