Abstract

The effect of angular momentum explicit conservation is evaluated in the framework of models which utilize single-particle wavefunctions to calculate fission barriers. Using simple assumptions, and extrapolating from known data, the calculated syperheavy barriers are lowered by 2 – 2.5 MeV. Fission barriers for the actinides are unaffected.
