Abstract

Abstract Following bilateral nephrectomy (dog and rabbit) an anemia which is partly hemolytic develops. 1–3 Observations on the lifespan of erthrocytes following renal ablation of the dog 3 indicate the development within 4 days of a shortened erythrocytic lifespan. In this discussion we present data concerning the glucose utilization, phosphate uptake, and reduced glutathione (GSH) content of erthrocytes 4 days following bilateral nephrectomy of the dog.
