Lower Urinary Tract Obstruction in Childhood.

Abstract

This monograph on lower urinary tract obstruction in childhood represents an exhaustive study by Young of the anatomic, pathologic, physiologic, and embryologic aspects of the bladder and urethra in children. His hypotheses and conclusions are based upon a complete research of the available literature on the subject. He also utilizes his own painstaking observations, both gross and histologic, of normal embryos, fetuses, newborns, necropsy specimens of children dying with obstructive uropathy, as well as biopsy specimens obtained from surgical cases with congenital obstructive lesions. His histologic material consists of 3,469 significant serial sections taken from this material where intricate longitudinal transverse and sagittal sections were cut and stained with special staining material to clearly delineate the different components as well as their arrangement in the normal and abnormal bladder and urethra.
