Abstract

Rationale: Myostatin negatively regulates SMM and function, mainly in chronic diseases. However, data on circulating myostatin concentration in humans are conflicting. In both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis (PD), a positive correlation between serum myostatin and SMM was shown. There is no data about the association of myostatin and skeletal muscle function and prognosis in PD patients. Thus, the aim is to assess the relation between myostatin, muscle mass and function, and outcomes in PD patients.
