Abstract

Angler returns of tagged walleyes Stizostedion vitreum initially caught for tagging in a trawl were lower than for walleyes initially caught by trap nets, fyke nets, or electroshocking in the Lake Winnebago system, Wisconsin. The lower return of walleyes from trawling is consistent with results of other studies of effects of trawling on fish and suggests lower survival of walleyes caught in trawls than of those caught by the other methods.
