Abstract

Sulfide ore bodies in the Bathurst district, New South Wales, are essentially conformable lenses within shales, exhibit no apparent relation to regional structures, and have no known igneous source. They are localized, however, with respect to andesitic pyroclastic units in the lower Paleozoic geosynclinal sequence. It is suggested that copper, lead, and zinc of the ores were derived from the volcanic rocks during metamorphism and replaced syngentic iron sulfides inthe adjacent shales.
