Abstract

This paper reports that high-magnetic-field, toroidal deuterium-tritium plasmas can have a window of accessibility to lower hybrid radio-frequency at moderate frequency. As an example, lower hybrid waves at 8 GHz are shown to penetrate most of the way into subignited and ignited Ignitor plasmas at full density and magnetic field, using a one-dimensional transport and ray-tracing code. Better heating of the plasma interior is obtained by launching from a negative poloidal angle relative to the horizontal midplane.
