Abstract

The abscissa of stability is defined to be the largest real part of the zeros of a stable or Hurwitz polynomial. A number of explicit lower bounds to this parameter are derived with the aid of symmetric functions of the zeros. These bounds define inclusion but not separation regions for this class of polynomials.
