Abstract

In this paper, a novel circularly polarized (CP) SIW cavity backed slot antenna is proposed for W-band operation. It is composed of SIW cavity, an aperture coupling slot, two radiation slots and a lower metallic WR-10. CP operation is achieved by embedding two perturbation stubs around the two opposite corners of the radiation slots. A low-loss WR-10 waveguide is adopted to excite TE 220 cavity mode through an aperture coupled slot for the proposed antenna, and the radiation loss as well as substrate loss of the feed line are significantly decreased. Results show that the antenna exhibits an impedance bandwidth (IBW) with |S 11 | < -10 dB from 89.9 to 96.8 GHz (7.43%), and a 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) from 90.3 to 95 GHz (5.08%) with the peak gain of the antenna is 10.5 dBi. Results of full-wave simulation by virtue of HFSS demonstrate the design.
