Abstract

In this paper, a power-efficient low-complexity iterative receiver structure for noncoherent transmission over Rayleigh flat fading channels without channel state information (CSI) is presented. As the main contribution, several novel decision-feedback assisted differential demodulators are derived, which are well-suited implementation. Thereby, the general case of multiple transmit and multiple receive antennas is considered. We further provide analytical expressions for the achievable bit-error rate, which in good accordance with simulation results highlight the advantageous properties of the proposed receiver structure. Despite its simple components, the noncoherent iterative receiver without CSI can outperform a coherent scheme assuming perfect CSI.
